Following a trip to nearby Bent’s Fort in La Junta, Colorado, my husband and I pulled off Highway 160 for a quick lunch on our way home. We found ourselves driving into the most beautiful valley nestled at the foot of the majestic Spanish Peaks, and discovered the quaint little town of La Veta, Colorado, a place that we and our family will enjoy for many years.
I have enjoyed a wonderful career in Pediatric Nursing. My husband retired after a rewarding career in government service. After raising five fantastic sons, we started looking for a quiet, fulfilling place to settle into, and found La Veta and Cuchara. Interested in photography, we hoped to find an area with fabulous landscapes, historic buildings and abundant wildlife. The landscape is dotted with old mining communities and homesteads, ranches, and small lakes. The rivers and creeks are visited by elk, deer, bear, mountain lion, fox, bald eagles and more.
Every day for us is an adventure filled with exploration, hiking, cross country skiing, bicycling, photography, or visits to nearby attractions such as Lathrop State Park, rodeos, and the Great Sand Dunes National Park. We enjoy a nationally recognized library, several superbly inspiring galleries, and some of the most interesting and far-traveled people you will ever meet.
As a member of Capture Colorado Mountain Properties I would love to help you find that special place in this adventure-filled area, a place that you and your family will also enjoy for many years!
